Alex Ovechkin has one in between and the Penguins have themselves a 4-1 lead late in the second. Eric Fehr adds a goal just before the end of the period and it's 4-2 at the start of the third. Then Alex Ovechkin changes "#Snowmageddon" into "#Snowvechkin" by scoring twice in the third to tie it up and complete his 10th career hat trick. February 18, 2009 - Alex Ovechkin scores one of the most amazing goals in team history in a game against the Montreal Canadiens. Ten minutes into the opening period, Montreal is leaving their zone on a pretty routine breakout, when one of the Montreal defensemen sends a pass just a bit too far for Roman Hamrlik to reel in. Alex is just coming on the ice from the opposite side as the puck goes off the boards, just a few feet in front of Hamrlik's stick. Alex chips the puck off the boards, does a spin-a-rama around Hamrlik, collects the puck and skates in on Carey Price with Kyle Chipchura closing in. Alex leans in as Chipchura hauls him down, but Alex is able to keep one hand on his stick and flip the puck just past Price's skate and into the net.

Then on February 19, 1980 before a home crowd of 13,551, they finally beat the Canadiens. This isn't a case where the Canadiens come out flat or take the Caps lightly. They play hard from the drop of the puck, but Wayne Stephenson has a great night, stopping 31 of the 32 shots he faces. Robert Picard, who took a puck to the face in warmups and received a dozen stitches in the locker room, comes back to open the scoring at 10:53 of the second period. In the third period, the play is controlled by Montreal, as Washington only manages 3 shots on goal. However, the scoring is all Washington as they score on 2 of those 3 shots to win, 3-1.
